Mrs. Bukky Olufemi Asubiojo, FNLA

Mrs Bukky Asubiojo was born in Ijebu Igbo in Ogun State on 18th January, 1960. She had her secondary education at Ago Iwoye Secondary School, and university education at the University of Ibadan from where she obtained Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) (Second Class Hons Upper Division), and Masters in Library Studies in 1983 and 1985 respectively.
She started her working career as Librarian II at the Lagos State Polytechnic in 1986, from where she transferred to the then Ogun State University (now Olabisi Onabanjo University Ago-Iwoye) in 1987, and later to Obafemi Awolowo University as Senior Librarian in 1992.
She rose through the ranks at OAU, Ile-Ife to the post of University Librarian in 2011, the first female to hold that post since the inception of the University. Her tenure witnessed a lot of giant strides at the OAU Library. Some of the notable strides of Mrs. Asubiojo as a University Librarian included: the establishment of faculty libraries; Institutional Repository (IR); group discussion rooms; and a 15- seater ultra-modern conference room among others.
Mrs Asubiojo’s sojourn in the field of Librarianship transcends the shores of OAU. She was the Acting University Librarian (on leave from OAU) at the inception of Osun State University, Osogbo in 2010; Acting University Librarian at the First Technical University, Ibadan in 2017 – 2018; and currently University Librarian of the newly established Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun with effect from 15th February, 2022.
Mrs. Asubiojo is a passionate Librarian who commits herself to excellence in the field of librarianship. Her passion for excellence has helped in the pioneering of university libraries across southwest, Nigeria. Mrs Asubiojo’s professional activities have taken her to various parts of the world, as she has presented scholarly papers at various international conferences in Nigeria, Europe, and the United States of America. She has published widely in reputable academic journals of librarianship across the world and has also contributed to some books in the field.
Among her many professional honours are: Chartered Librarian of Nigeria (CLN); and Fellow, Nigerian Library Association (FNLA), the highest professional honour in Library profession in Nigeria. Mrs. Bukky Asubiojo has held visiting appointments in various universities among which are: Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State; and Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye. She has also served as Consultant for the appointment of University Librarians for many Universities in the country.
In terms of community services outside the university system, Mrs. Bukky Asubiojo is a member of: the Elite Women’s Club, Ilawe Ekiti; the Eminent Sisters Club, Ilawe Ekiti; and Christian Mothers of St John’s Catholic Church, Ilawe Ekiti. She is currently the Matriarch of the Nigerian Library Association, Osun State Chapter. Mrs. Bukky Asubiojo is happily married to Prof. Bode Asubiojo and the marriage is blessed with many children and grandchildren.
