Biography of the Provost – Professor Oyeku Akibu Oyelami
Professor Oyeku A. Oyelami attended Christ School, Ado-Ekiti between 1967 and 1971, from where he proceeded to the University of Ibadan in 1972. He graduated from the University of Ibadan with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1978. He subsequently underwent residency training in Paediatrics, qualifying as a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians (FWACS-Paediatrics) in 1988. He is a also a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. He was appointed as a Lecturer I at the Obafemi Awolowo University in 1989, rose through the ranks and became a Professor of Paediatrics and Child Health in October 2002.
Professor Oyelami delivered the 182nd Inaugural Lecture of the Obafemi Awolowo University on 26 July 2005 entitled “The Man, the Myth, the Mould and the Microbe”. He has published five books and has over 100 journal publications. He is married and the marriage is blessed with children.
