Chief Akande’s visit was marked by his glowing admiration for the university’s phenomenal infrastructural growth and a call for more medical universities to address Nigeria’s healthcare challenges.
A Tour of Progress
Accompanied by FUHSI Vice-Chancellor, Professor Wale Lasisi, Chief Akande toured several completed and ongoing projects, including:

Expressing his delight, Chief Akande stated, “I have never seen a university grow at this phenomenal rate in infrastructure all my life.”
A Vision for More Medical Universities
During his visit, Chief Akande emphasized the urgent need for additional medical universities in Nigeria to combat brain drain and improve the nation’s doctor-to-population ratio, currently below World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations. He noted, “For a medical science university, I would love to see more of it in the country because health is wealth.”
A Plea for Federal Support
Professor Lasisi highlighted FUHSI’s remarkable achievements, including the development of a 350-bed teaching hospital now under federal management. He called on the Federal Government to expedite payments to contractors and vendors to sustain the institution’s growth trajectory.
A Testament to Excellence
The visit underscores FUHSI’s commitment to advancing medical education, infrastructure, and healthcare delivery. Chief Akande’s commendation and advocacy reflect the university’s critical role in addressing national healthcare challenges and retaining medical talent. FUHSI remains steadfast in its mission to provide world-class healthcare education and infrastructure, paving the way for a healthier and more prosperous Nigeria.
